The Role Teaching Assistant

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational Level 1 Teaching Assistant to work with individual or in small groups of pupils, with identified special educational needs.

You would be required to work with individual and/or small groups of children both in the classroom, during breaks and lunchtimes to assist with learning, safety, behaviour. You would also be required to motivate and assist small groups of pupils with the development of communication and social skills, as well as supporting their learning in the classroom.

You will be employed on a temporary contract linked to the SEND funding.  You will work 17.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday), 39 weeks per year.

You will be appointed on Grade 2, SCP 1 to SCP 2. Your annual actual salary range £7,252 - £7,397.

As a Teaching Assistant your main responsibilities will include: in-class support, group work, interventions, 1:1 support, first aid and general welfare. The role require a good knowledge of current practices, including phonics, a positive approach, a willingness to learn and a desire to be part of an effective team. 

You will:

  • Have a desire to further develop their skills
  • Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Provide support in delivering high quality childcare and education
  • Promote high expectations and support pupil engagement with learning
  • Support the classroom teacher with their responsibility for the development and education process.
  • Work in respectful partnership with parents/carers when supporting children in their learning and development
  • Have a sound knowledge of behaviour management and SEND
  • Be approachable and resilient
  • Have experience of working with children with SEND needs (desirable)
