We are a happy, successful and popular school situated in Gornal in the West Midlands. Part of a strong, friendly community steeped in history, we are close to Baggeridge Country Park, with its mining heritage, and the grounds of Himley Hall once owned by the Earl of Dudley. All of these areas are used by the children in their work at school and contribute to the wellbeing of our school and wider community. Our own school grounds are very extensive with large areas for playing sport.

Due to the retirement of the current postholder after 10 years as Headteacher, the school Governors are seeking to appoint an individual committed to building on our strengths and who will take the school forward. Ensuring that all our pupils are provided with the best experience and achieve full potential.

There are 400 pupils on the school roll and there is a strong working relationship with other local schools and the local authority.

You will work closely with a supportive governing body who also challenge leaders and hold them to account. This is recognised in our most recent OFSTED inspection, recognising strengths in leadership and management, effective faculty leaders and behaviour.

We would encourage you to visit the school prior to applying so that you can witness first-hand the values and culture of the school and its surroundings. In addition, giving you the opportunity to observe the children in their learning environment.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children; therefore the post is subject to medical clearance and an enhanced DBS check.

Due to the retirement of our current Headteacher, the children, staff and governors of The Straits Primary School are seeking an inspirational, enthusiastic and forward-thinking leader to support a flexible and effective staff team to lead our school. We are a popular primary school serving children from our local community. We provide a nurturing experience for our pupils with a focus on wellbeing and high standards. We believe in a strong relationship between home and school and that working together with families is the best way to ensure success for our children. We are seeking someone:
  • With a proven track record of effective school leadership, whether as a serving headteacher or deputy headteacher.
  • Who exhibits excellent leadership and strategic skills and the ability to lead an effective team, raising standards where required but recognising and maintaining excellence where it is already in place.
  • Able to balance resources efficiently and effectively in a way that maximises performance and ensures the financial sustainability of the school.
  • Who shares the same values as our school community.
Our children have requested a Head teacher who:
  • Able to have fun
  • Someone who comes into our classrooms to see us
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Someone who gives 100% effort
We can offer you:
  • Enthusiastic, friendly children who are eager to learn and are proud of their school.
  • Motivated, committed, dedicated and experienced staff and a happy, friendly working ebvironment.
  • Supportive Governors, parents and Local Authority who are committed to developing the school alongside the Head Teacher.
