We are looking to appoint a dynamic and forward thinking Vice Principal who is a motivated and inspirational leader to lead on behaviour, attitudes and personal standards within the Academy. 

Joseph Leckie Academy is a vibrant, exciting and innovative mixed 11-18 Converter Academy with an overall progress score of +0.46 (2019). With these excellent results and our continual desire and drive to continue moving forward towards outstanding, this is an exciting time for you to join our team. Prior to the pandemic, the Academy remained for three years as the top non-selective secondary school for progress in Walsall based on validated results and is one of the highest performing secondary schools in the region.

The Academy continues to grow and thrive with approximately 1400 students. Our last Ofsted inspection in October 2021 judged the Academy to be good in all categories and for overall effectiveness with some excellent feedback and this appointment is a key factor in achieving our goal of working towards an Outstanding rating and this role will particularly focus on driving towards outstanding in behaviour, attitudes and key aspects of personal development and safeguarding.

Student attitudes, attendance and punctuality are good and students are proud of their school and they feel safe. There is a calm and purposeful atmosphere around the Academy and we have low levels of disruption and this leads the majority of students to flourish in all areas and they enjoy their learning. Students really value opportunities to learn about social, moral and cultural issues and they treat others with great respect and are not afraid to speak out when something is not right.  

Staff work very well together to promote a very strong culture of safeguarding and to make students know how to stay safe and all staff receive high quality safeguarding training from our safeguarding lead.

We pride ourselves on our high expectations of all learners. This creates a calm learning environment where teachers can teach and students can learn. We offer a highly supportive environment and are committed to ensuring outstanding teaching, behaviour, progress and achievement. The Vice Principal will provide the leadership required to work with the Principal and Leadership Team to achieve excellence. The role of this appointment will be as per the attached information although the precise responsibilities will be confirmed upon appointment. However, the structure and roles of the wider Leadership Team will be reviewed on appointment and may be subject to change dependent on individual strengths.

Applicants are invited from individuals who are currently experienced senior leaders on a Leadership Team. This is an opportunity for an ambitions, committed and dynamic senior leader who has considerable experience and able to implement whole Academy systems, strategies and procedures in a high performing context.

The successful candidate should:

  • be an outstanding teacher with a proven record of raising achievement
  • be able to lead and promote areas of the Academy as determined by the Principal and in consultation with the Leadership Team, in particular in relation to pastoral leadership
  • be a successful, highly organised leader with at least four years’ experience in school leadership at senior level, preferably leadership of pastoral areas
  • have experience of leadership in more than one school
  • have a clear understanding of transforming behaviour and attitudes to learning and contributing to positive behaviour around the Academy
  • be able to inspire students and get the best from them
  • be positive, enthusiastic and resilient
  • be an effective team member
  • be ambitious for further career development and enhancement
  • have highly developed inter – personal skills and excellent ICT skills
  • have excellent knowledge and use of the data systems to identify, monitor and be able to target underachieving students
  • have a high standard of communication skills
  • be able to inspire students and get the best from them
  • have a clear understanding of the importance of safeguarding and equal opportunities
  • be able to work with effectively parents and the wider community
  • be positive, enthusiastic and resilient
  • meet the job specification criteria
