Birmingham City Council Adults Directorate is delighted to provide an exciting opportunity and established within Adult Social Care a ‘Safeguarding Triage Team’ created to supplement the work of Birmingham City Council Contact Centre, the Social Work and City-Wide Safeguarding Teams, to ensure vulnerable citizens get the excellent support they need in a timely manner specifically when dealing with safeguarding concerns.

Focussed responsibilities required within the role:

  • The Safeguarding Triage Team will receive all safeguarding referrals coming through the BCC Contact Centre.
  • The Triage team will gather sufficient information/intelligence to determine whether or not the referral requires a Section 42 response and establish the priority of the presenting situation.
  • The key role of the Triage Team is to establish whether further social care assessments or ongoing safeguarding intervention is needed;
  • The Triage Team will ensure that the referral is transferred to the appropriate Social Work/Safeguarding Team.
  • Where the referred citizen does not require further support from Adult Social Care, the Triage Team will signpost to other services/provide information as required.
  • You will need to have considerable experience of working in the social care sector
  • You will need to understand and adhere to Owning and Driving Performance principles and approaches to working
  • You will need to have the ability to work collaboratively with others
  • You will need to demonstrate a commitment to citizens and their carers
  • You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • You will need to show examples of demonstrating dignity and respect within work
  • You will need to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of Safeguarding and your responsibilities as a social work practitioner
  • You will need to demonstrate the ability to work alongside partnership agencies
  • You will need to be able to prioritise workloads whilst working with competing demands
