Job Details

We currently have some exciting opportunities for Library Managers to join our team, helping lead and manage diverse and busy community libraries within the Solihull borough.

1 x Full Time Permanent – Shirley and Olton Libraries

1 x Fixed Term Part Time (15 hours per week) – Knowle & Dickens Heath Libraries

As we move forward during the pandemic, libraries are becoming an essential hub for our communities to come together, meet and share ideas and engage in services available to them through the Council and our partner organisations.

Community libraries within Solihull are continually adapting service delivery to meet the needs of our customers. This includes providing literature for all ages and abilities and seeking to reduce the digital divide by offering access and support to digital technologies. We are also spaces for communities to come together and work with local groups and partners, ensuring those who want to access support networks can do so in a safe and vibrant space.

As Library Manger, you will be:

  • At the forefront of delivering and promoting a range of services to customers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
  • Leading a service that seeks to meet the needs of the community through innovation in digital technology and delivering library based activities.
  • Responsible for supervising staff and ensuring their continuous development, leading and supporting your team to ensure the library continues to serve the community’s needs.

You will have:

  • Excellent customer service skills, with experience of working in a face to face customer service environment.
  • An effective approach to problem solving and responding to customer and staff needs.
  • Experience of leading and developing a team
  • Confidence and experience in using and promoting digital technology.
  • The ability to demonstrate innovation in the delivery of services and embed this approach within your team.

Previous experience of working within library settings is desirable but not essential

It is an exciting time within libraries with lots of opportunities for innovation and creativity and requires applicants with a genuine passion for delivering great customer service and the motivation to lead a library service that serves its community.

The post holder will be required to work alternate Saturdays as part of their working pattern. You will work between two designated libraries, but will need to be flexible to work at other libraries in the Solihull borough if required.
