Life Ready Work Ready Co-odinator

37 hours per week

NJC SO1 - £27,741 - £29,577 per annum

Fixed term until  March 2023

Life Ready Work Ready works is an ESF (European Social Fund) funded project. The post holder will be required to work with other colleagues also funded by ESF on the  Life Ready Work Ready project that draws down this funding. We work in  partnership with schools and businesses to help young people fulfil their potential and to engage and inspire young people to make positive transitions into education, employment and training.

Through mentoring, enterprise challenges, skills development initiatives and work experience, the young people we work with are provided with opportunities to develop the key skills employers are looking for. 

The purpose of the programme is not only preparing young people for a work environment but also the demands and expectations that come with this. It is an opportunity for employers to inspire young people to consider their workplace as a future career.

Working as part of the life ready work ready team you will be responsible for engaging businesses, developing relationships and support to deliver activities to young people and business in Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire and to prepare young people for the world of work

  • To generate and develop relationships with employers. Identifying employers who could engage with schools and students from a variety of sectors, engage and maintain the relationship and support.  Linking employers into relevant students opportunities and developing further opportunities for them to engage.
  • To be the main link with businesses to engage with schools and young people to maximise all opportunities for young people to succeed in the world of work and minimising unemployment.
  • To work across the geographic area of Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire.
  • To attend business networking events and opportunities to showcase the Life Ready Work Ready offer and develop further employer engagement.
  • To develop and maintain relationships with businesses to support the engagement with activities with young people
  • To contribute to the development of policies and guidance to ensure effective integration of a range of education, training, skills and employment initiatives and programmes so as to maximise opportunities for young people.
  • To develop and deliver training aimed at businesses, to support them to appropriately engage and deliver to young people.
  • To maintain an overview of the range of support programmes for improving employment prospects both in the council and externally including sharing national policy and best practice;
  • To contribute to the planning and delivery of large scale high profile events within the borough such as The Apprenticeship Show.
  • Engage businesses to attend events such as The Apprenticeship Show and relevant STEM events.
  • To develop, maintain and regularly update a new Life Ready Work Ready website.
  • To work with teams in the Business, Development and Employment service alongside corporate communications to maximise communications to promote local support and opportunities for employment for both business and individuals.
  • Support with the development and delivery of conferences to bring business and schools together.
  • To develop/liaise with other teams in DBE to deliver events and promotional activities to increase employer and individual engagement in recruitment, jobs and training.
  • Will be responsible for completing ESF paperwork, associated targets and reporting.
  • Will be responsible for day to day management of the project budget. 

Employment support and preparation for work is an ever changing landscape with many nationally drive projects as well as local actions that need local co ordination to ensure both businesses and young people can understand and access the support available. The post holder will be required to work across business and employment teams to ensure a shared understanding of issues and joining up services for solutions.

you will also need to have a proven track record and be able to demonstrate: 

  • Knowledge of ESF funding would be an advantage
  • Experience of working with Businesses and schools
  • A good  Understanding of the local business make up and labour market
  • Innovative thinking and the development of new ideas working with other teams;
  • Be able to keep up to date on national policies on employment and best practice.
  • Supporting projects that will result in innovative, co-operative ways of working;
  • Develop and deliver activities to enhance and compliment existing activities.
  • Experience of Negotiating, communicating and working jointly with a wide range of partners and stakeholder
  • An understanding of education, training and local issues and barriers to employment
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast paced, outcome focused, changing environment
  • Be able to create and deliver activities and presentations to a wide range of audiences
