Premises Officer

Pro-rata to Level 5   £20092 - £22183

Actual Salary:  £15470 - £17089

28.50 hours working Wed: 8.30 – 5.30, Thurs and Friday 7.00 a.m – 5.30 p.m.

The Governing Body of Abbey Hill School & College are seeking to employ a part-time Premises Officer/Caretaker/Handyman to join our existing Premises Team.  This is a newly created part-time post working alongside our existing Premises Manager and Premises Assistant.

As a Premises Officer (Handyman/Caretaker), you will be an experienced facilities professional who supervises work across the school with both external and internal contractors.

Key Duties include:

  • Opening and closing of school premises
  • Ensure that buildings and the site are secure, including during out of school hours and taking remedial action if required 
  • Act as a designated key holder
  • Operate and regularly check systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security (including CCTV and alarms) 
  • Undertake minor repairs (i.e. not requiring qualified craftsperson) and maintenance of the buildings and site 
  • Undertake general portage duties, including moving furniture and equipment within the school 
  • Undertake regular health and safety checks of buildings, grounds, fixtures and fittings, (including compliance with fire safety regulations) and equipment, in line with other schedules. 


  • Knowledge and expertise in minor maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge / skills in facilities equivalent to current national qualifications level 3 and supervisory experience
  • A good level of education:  GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English

The successful applicant will have

  • The ability to multi-task and work well as part of a team.
  • Proven and demonstrable experience of working in a similar role
  • A willingness to deliver first aid and drive a minibus (following training) is advantageous.
