Pastoral Support Assistant-Michael Drayton Junior School (Teaching Assistant –Level 3)

The successful candidate with be working with a range of children including those with complex needs.

We are keen to appoint an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with a passion for outdoor learning to our large, well- resourced Junior School. The school has a very friendly, lively ethos, a committed staff and offers great opportunities for professional development.

Initially, the role will be positioned within our well-resourced, ‘Learning Support Team,’ supporting pupils primarily with additional learning needs including: Communication and interaction, Cognition and learning, Social, emotional and mental health difficulties and Sensory and/or physical needs, with an emphasis on using the outdoors, both in our well-developed school grounds and in Hartshill Hayes. Throughout the week, the successful applicant will work 1:1, lead small groups and at times whole classes – this will be dependent on the needs of both the pupils/school.

Key Requirements

Those interested in the post must be creative, resilient, patient and most importantly, have a passion for working outdoors. The successful applicant must be prepared to wrap up and get their hands dirty working in our Al Fresco area, polytunnel and Grow Zone or even taking advantage of the local woodlands, at some point each day regardless of the Great British weather’s offerings.

The role will support, mentor and facilitate our pupils’ development both socially and emotionally through a range of programs/interventions including ‘outdoor learning’ activities. Using the National Curriculum along Thrive objectives, the pastoral assistant will plan, deliver and assess sessions to secure progress.

The school is committed to developing the Thrive approach. Thrive is instrumental in securing pastoral success across our curriculum for all pupils. In addition to the love of the outdoors, there must also be an interest in becoming a Licensed Thrive Practitioner and the commitment to completing the course that the school will fund.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The post is subject to a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check.
