Building and Safety Manager

Full Time, Salary up to £35,745 per annum

Wychavon District Council is looking for a confident, experienced and enthusiastic Building and Safety Manager to take responsibility for the Council’s Building services and repairs and also to act as the Corporate Health and Safety Advisor.

The role is responsible for work in the Civic Centre, Pershore, the adjacent hospital and medical centre and on our 4 leisure facilities within the District. As Building and Safety Manager, your will be required to ensure all facilities are safe to open, that they are well maintained and that they have all statutory tests and maintenance kept up to date. Promoting the Councils environmental policies and seeking opportunities to reduce the carbon impacts of our facilities is also an important part of the role.

You will also provide a comprehensive Corporate Health and Safety service across the Council and provide Health and Safety advice and support to all staff and Managers.  This will include policy development, compliance auditing, accident investigations, risk advice and evacuation testing.

You will be expected to provide Health and Safety advice to a range of staff including the Senior Management Team and you will also lead the Councils Health and Safety Group and it is key that you champion good practice within our workplace.

Key Requirements:

We are looking for an individual with a minimum qualification level of BTEC Higher Level Diploma in Building construction (or equivalent) and a NEBOSH Health and Safety qualification is required for this post. Substantial experience and a commitment to achieve appropriate qualifications within 6 months of appointment may be considered. 

You must be able to demonstrate commitment to delivering the Council's values of great customer service, openness and accountability, innovation and improvement and fairness and respect.

Skills & Experience:

This is very much a people focused post so excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Problem solving skills in relation to building defects and repairs is required as are robust investigative skills in relation to accidents at work.

A minimum of 3 years work experience in a Health and Safety or Building Management role is needed with a substantial experience of both disciplines.  

This is a busy role and the ability to challenge people and work under pressure is key
