1 x Full time permanent role

Grade 4  £20,092 - £21,748

The Ranger Service operates throughout the city of Wolverhampton providing a visible presence undertaking patrols within parks and green spaces, engaging with the local community including Friends Groups and Volunteers.

The post holder will be required to assist in developing recreational use in parks and green spaces across the city, engaging with members of the public, community groups and volunteers with an emphasis on environmental work, safety and security within the city parks, green spaces and any other sites under the responsibility of the service area.

Duties will include: -

•To carry out a high visible and high profile patrolling of parks and green spaces.

•To actively discourage anti-social behaviour or behaviour that contravenes local byelaws. To communicate with the Police and other agencies regarding public nuisance and safety.

•To provide high quality information and advice, verbally and by use notice boards, ensuring they remain relevant and up to date.

•To report incidents of vandalism and health and safety issues.

•To undertake some environmental maintenance works such as litter picking, cleansing and minor shrub pruning.

•To undertake minor repairs to play areas across the city.

•To operate, maintain, inspect and undertake water safety checks to features at the city’s lakes, pools, fountains and ponds

•To maintain and cleanse sports facilities to a set standard

•To undertake educational activities with small groups

• To undertake minor maintenance tasks that are within the capability of the post holder where appropriate trained/qualified to do so and commensurate with the grade.

• To gather information to respond to enquiries and insurance claims

• To undertake locking and unlocking duties at the city’s parks and other sites as 
directed.

• To undertake mobile patrols across the city parks and green spaces.

• To undertake training and development to ensure up to date skills, knowledge and 
continuous development.

 

You will need to hold a full clean driving licence for this post.

You should have good communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team or on your own and undertake other duties that include dealing with members of the public as required, liaising with members of Environmental Services, other council officers, supervisors and managers.

Any 5 days out of 7 working arrangement will apply to this post (includes weekends and Bank Holidays).
