Worcester City Council’s Strategic Housing Service is recruiting a Private Sector Access Officer to join our busy Private Sector Team to manage and develop the supply of good quality private rented sector accommodation through our successful City Life Lettings agency, to prevent households from experiencing homelessness.

 

You will play an essential role helping in a review and redesign of the City Life Lettings service, delivering sustainable, affordable tenancy opportunities to meet local need and support the wider work of the council in relation to homelessness.

 

The work will involve conducting tenancy inspections, responding to enquiries, maintaining accurate records, managing financial records, maintaining good working relationships with landlords, carrying out tenancy sign up procedures including inventories and housing benefit forms, developing tenancy sustainment processes, providing support to tenants including support with housing benefits, signposting to other relevant agencies as appropriate and engaging with landlords to increase City Life Letting’s portfolio of properties.

This is a great opportunity to further develop your experience of working in the housing sector with a supportive and successful organisation and undertake a wide range of duties, as well as partnership working, to deliver a successful local authority letting agency.

You will have experience of working in a housing environment and undertaking property or tenancy inspections and inventories and have good working knowledge of private sector housing legislation and issues, homelessness and current welfare reform changes. Further to this you will have experience of actively working with tenants, landlords and/or other accommodation providers to resolve issues and improve customer satisfaction.

To apply you must have G.C.S.E’s Grade C in English Language and Mathematics or equivalent and be able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills and be capable of carrying out complex calculations. A HHSRS or other surveying qualification would be an advantage.

You should be pro-active and self-motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work with and support a wide range of customers, including vulnerable homeless clients. You must also have a positive approach and willingness to contribute towards continuous service improvements. You will also need to a strong team player and have a flexible approach to work and change by responding to the needs of the team and service. You must also have a commitment to adopting safe risk assessment and lone working practices, in accordance with Council policy and procedure.

The role is 37hrs a week hybrid working based from home and offices in Worcester.
