Working in our highly innovative and driven Development Management Team, our  experienced Highways Development Officers deal with a wide range of statutory development management functions as well as securing commercial opportunities.  Driving the ambitions and success of the team forward our successful candidate will provide co ordination, leadership and motivation to ensure the delivery of all statutory functions and  work alongside the Business Manager for the delivery of our Business Plan.

Working alongside our busy Development Management colleagues, the post holder will play a pivotal role in achieving the highest standards in the services we provide to the fast paced expansion of our Town. Joining this experienced and dynamic team, you will need to have the passion, determination and ambition to make a difference within Telford &Wrekin Council in order to deliver the very best for our residents, businesses and communities through an excellent planning service.

To be the lead Highway Development Management Engineer, managing the Councils statutory highway development management functions, and commercial opportunities.  This includes the assessment of the impact of new development on the highway, approving new housing and industrial development highway layouts, securing S106 contributions and its expenditure, safety audits and adoptions, the public highway element of local land charge searches and the development and implementation of the Council’s strategic policies and procedures relating to public rights of way.

The post holder will also be responsible for sourcing and delivery of work associated with the Teams consultancy support and work closely with the Business Manager to ensure the delivery of the business plan.

The post holder must also ensure the delivery of development management functions particularly relating to aspects of highway, drainage and geotechnical engineering advice remain coordinated with and responsive to, the Council’s engineering capital programmes

You will be expected to:

  • Hold a degree in Civil Engineering (or related subject) or significant experience of working in a highway development control role
  • Have membership of a professional body (such as the Chartered Institute of Highways & Transportation)
  • Prove substantial and demonstrable experience of operating in a strategic and political environment
  • Have significant experience in the management of all aspects of Transport, Highways and Development Control Services.
  • Have substantial experience in commissioning and contract management.
