Job Title: Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) role in Children’s Social Care
Contract: Permanent
Location: Hereford
Hours: 37 hours
Salary: HC07 £25481 - £29577
Closing: 13th February 2022

Recently qualified or are about to qualify as a social worker? We have a great new offer for NQSWs, an assisted and supported year in employment that will give you the opportunity to apply your newly acquired skills and experience in making a difference to the lives of children and young people in Herefordshire in a supportive environment surrounded by great colleagues who are there to help you. So if this is what you are looking for in a great place to live and have a balanced lifestyle then why not apply?

So why us?

Herefordshire Children’s Services is currently embarking on an ambitious transformation journey to improve the quality of our support to children and families through our Signs of Safety practice framework.  Our practice model emphasises the importance of recognising a family's strengths, working collaboratively and respectfully with them alongside our professional partners, and being solution-focused in our approach to helping improve the safety and outcomes to children and young people’s lives.

What’s the deal?

As a newly qualified social worker, you will join our newly created Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) hub within the Social Care Academy for the first 6 months before being placed in your permanent team for the remaining 6-months of your ASYE.  You will continue to receive support from the Social Care Academy through the remainder of your ASYE.

The ASYE hub will provide a protected and supported environment for your induction and training.  You will complete all core training during the 6-month in the Social Care Academy.  In addition, as an NQSW, you will be supported by an Advanced Practitioner in our Social Care Academy with a newly expanded and extensive learning offer to continue your professional learning and development journey.

As an NQSW, you will also be supported through a protected caseload of children and young people.  You will receive help and support and increase their safety whilst given supported opportunities for critical reflection, training, and direct observations of your practice, all aimed at giving you the best chance to complete your ASYE programme and professional portfolio.

As a newly qualified social worker, you will engage with others in different service areas/organisations to broaden your learning, gain peer support, and build critical awareness.  You will also spend time in various teams to enable you to understand the child/ young person’s journey through our organisation.  In addition, Advanced Practitioners within the Social Care Academy will support and provide feedback on complex tasks such as writing parenting assessments.

The ASYE Hub will provide you with strong career development pathways.  We will identify NQSWs who can be our future managers for leadership and management training programmes to equip them with their skills before entering a management role.

And ……. when you successfully complete your ASYE, you will automatically move up to the next grade and become eligible for the market forces supplement attached to the role.

We are currently looking for applicants who will  have graduated and be registered with Social Work England to start end of June 2022. In exchange for having a great experience with us, we ask that you are a team player and will put children and their families at the heart of your practice to strive to get the best possible outcomes for them.

Interested?, then review the job description and person specification for this role.  If you are still keen, then we welcome your application!  To apply, please submit your CV and our supporting statement template, detailing how you meet the specific requirements of the role.
