Milverton Homes is a newly set up Local Housing Company wholly owned by Warwick District Council (WDC). It has been established with a purpose to drive forward housing, economic development and regeneration across the District with the following objectives:

  • provide WDC with a long-term income stream to invest in Council functions
  • to enable the Council to meet the housing needs of a wider range of customer groups than solely through the Housing Revenue Account (HRA)
  • to provide good quality rented homes at market or sub-market levels
  • to deliver housing needed within the District on either council-owned sites or other sites within the area.

The role will report to the Principal Accountant - Housing and will play a key role in the provision of a comprehensive accountancy service for Housing. This will include responsibility for the financial management and reporting of the Local Housing Company. In addition to this principal role, there will also be responsibility for assisting with the wider finances of the Housing services for Warwick District Council through the Housing Revenue Account.

Working closely with both the Principal Accountant and Assistant Accountant, we are looking for someone with broad finance experience as the role will cover a wide range of activities from raising invoices and producing VAT returns to the maintenance, production and supply of financial information from which statutory and strategic obligations can be met. Other operational tasks that the role will be required to undertake will include:

  • meeting budget managers and assisting with their services
  • generating financial management reports
  • manage housing grant claims by maintaining a grant register, and the preparation of financial information to support submissions and outturn reconciliations
  • assisting with year end tasks, including the preparation of financial data for statutory returns subject to audit review.

We are looking for an appropriately qualified or experienced finance professional who:

  • Is comfortable establishing and delivering new processes, procedures and reports to support the initial start up phase for the Company
  • Is prepared to work across a wide area of financial duties to support the initial establishment of the Local Housing Company, and then provide the necessary ongoing support as required
  • Can communicate complicated or sensitive information with varied stakeholders
  • Can work under pressure including meeting varying deadlines and dealing with conflicting demands

The role will develop along with the company over the next few years.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help establish the strong financial management of a business that is going to be integral to the longer-term strategy of Warwick District Council and be of benefit to many residents.

The role will be a full time, permanent post, with the intention being for the postholder to be able to work remotely from home. However, it may be necessary as part of the role to periodically attend meetings in person and work from our Offices in Royal Leamington Spa.

If you have any questions or wish to have an informal discussion, please contact Andrew Rollins by email andrew.rollins@warwickdc.gov.uk

Closing date: 06/02/22

Interview date/s: 21/02/22 or 23/02/22
