Do you aspire to work for an ‘Outstanding’ Local Authority?

Here at Telford and Wrekin Council, we have been judged to be outstanding overall in terms of effectiveness (the only Authority in the West Midlands with this judgement).

Here’s just some of the great things Ofsted had to say when they visited us recently:
• Children are cared for and cared about
• Social Workers and other staff who support children are very committed and they are exceptionally well trained
• Children are listened to and their experiences are well understood
• Senior Leaders aspire to a service for every child that they would welcome for their own
• Children benefit from a stable workforce which is highly committed and experienced
• Staff experience a wide range of development opportunities

We are well adapted to a hybrid model of working which includes a combination of time spent in the office and at home – our approach is to promote greater level of flexible working around personal and family commitments.

We have a great opportunity for a full time Mainstream Fostering Social Worker (based in our Mainstream Fostering Team). This busy team is very experienced, highly supportive, friendly and enthusiastic about what they do. They work hard but also find time to celebrate achievements and good practice. The Mainstream Team work closely and cooperatively with colleagues within the Family Placement Team, with social workers and managers from other Children’s Services, and with Legal Services. The work is interesting, often complex and challenging but is crucial to achieving placement stability and permanence.

Main accountabilities of the role:

• To recruit, assess, supervise, train, support and manage a professional case load of foster carers/carers

• To participate and deliver a support line out of hours service provision on a rota basis

• To arrange and/or directly provide specialist interventions and support to foster carers caring for children and young people with complex needs

• To directly contribute to the compliance of the fostering service

• To undertake duties expected of social workers in line with the Professional Capabilities Framework and maintain SWE registration

There’s never been a more exciting time to join our service: alongside making a difference to the lives of individuals and families, we’re adopting exciting new strengths-based approaches and are passionate about delivering continuous service improvement. And our people are at the heart of this progress: that’s why from tailored in-house training to the West Midlands Teaching Partnership, we make sure they have access to the best development opportunities. If you share our passion for making a difference, we would be delighted if you joined us.

Telford & Wrekin Council values social work careers and believes in providing good quality experiences to social workers. We are committed to both you and to developing the future social work workforce. We have a robust supervision policy which is geared towards achieving positive outcomes for you as a worker and for the children and families we work with. You will have regular, quality supervision with your line manager.

Telford and Wrekin Council takes seriously the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all the children and young people entrusted to our care and it is our expectation that all staff will share this commitment. We will ensure continuous development and improvement of robust recruitment processes and procedures that promote a culture of safeguarding amongst our workforce.
