Job Details

Do you want to work with a team of GIS experts, develop your own knowledge and skills and literally make a difference to the lives of millions of people?

Our Data Insight Team is looking for an experienced WebGIS Developer to improve the web presence and delivery of transport data visualisation and analysis. The team, part of Transport for West Midlands, is working across a multitude of innovative projects in the West Midlands, including supporting the Commonwealth Games. Longer term we are at the cutting edge of transport data and analytics and we are an acknowledged industry leader.

As a Web GIS developer, you will be well versed in using the ESRI JavaScript API to enable tweaks to be made to core web based ESRI tools. You will have a great approach to understanding users and how they access data and information and take personal pride and pleasure in making the complicated information appear simple.

What will you be doing?

  • Develop and support the use of the ESRI GIS derived data and functionality in business intelligence tools, publication on websites, the use within web applications and making the data available via web service technologies
  • Support the delivery of a self-service web-based approach with consideration to customers, suppliers and stakeholders
  • Build practical applications which innovatively deliver digital based solutions as part of the TfWM business working closely with the web team and data insight service
  • Ensure that projects are created and delivered that satisfy TfWM priorities around delivering web-based location data to partner organisations and the public

This is an excellent opportunity to make a positive difference to peoples’ lifestyles through the way they travel. If you’re searching for a unique experience where you can make a difference, dynamically collaborating within a creative, diverse and lively environment, using the latest thinking in transport technology, this is the job for you.

About you

  • Experience of web technologies including RESTful web services, web development frameworks, critically the ESRI JavaScript API, and web development languages
  • Experience of design build and deployment of scalable web sites, embedding functionality within Umbraco CMS, utilising AWS / Azure for hosting where appropriate
  • Understanding of GDPR
  • Understanding of data licensing
