Job Purpose
The Best Interests Assessor Team undertakes assessments within the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) framework and under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. The Team’s work is undertaken on behalf of Stoke on Trent City Council.
Duties / Responsibilities
· To carry out assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards or in relation to Deprivation of Liberty applications to the Court of Protection, consistent with legal and statutory obligations under the Mental Capacity Act / DOLS
· Practice within the Mental Capacity Act and DOLS Code of Practice, following the five principles of the Mental Capacity Act.
· To provide advice, guidance, training to other professionals / teams / services
· To manage and prioritise work in accordance with policies and procedures of the team, organisation and relevant legislation.
· To make a speedy and appropriate response to work referred.
· To maintain records and complete written assessments in accordance with local and national standards and ensure that completed assessments are securely passed on to the Local Authority within legal time limits.

This position is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
This position requires the successful candidate to be fully Covid-19 vaccinated or provide evidence of exemption in line with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2021 ('the Regulations').
