Be Bold.  Be Birmingham.  These brand-new jobs in People Services are how we’re making things happen across the City.  The Council provides services to around one million people, and it’s Europe’s largest local authority.

Vibrant, courageous and resilient – that’s how we describe our City, and right now great things are happening that go way beyond the Commonwealth Games this Summer.  We’re proud of our heritage and we’re proud to be hosting the Games, and all that it represents, although there’s so much else to do.

Here’s what’s happening right now.  We’re transforming how we deliver services to our customers, and we’ve created a brand-new People Services team to support our colleagues in delivering services to the citizens of Birmingham.  We’re creating partnerships with networks and communities, as well as critical stakeholders to make change happen.  And we’re encouraging people like you, who thrive on change and complexity to join us.  We’ll take it for granted that you are courageous and inquisitive, as well as sensitive to others as they experience the impact of change on their roles.

How often have you had the opportunity to join a newly transformed People Services team and shape how we do things in Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing?

That’s just what we need right now as we move to a new People Services operating model and if we’ve grabbed your attention, then read on to find out more.  We’ve put customers at the heart of everything we do and for Birmingham City Council, Europe’s largest local authority, that’s providing services to 1 million people.

This is where you come in.  We’re keen for people to join us who can lead and shape our future.  This is the time for continuous improvement, forward thinking and best in class solutions.  Maintaining the status quo is not what we do, and this is your opportunity to join us on our journey to create an outstanding SEQOHS Accredited Occupational Health Service.

With a diverse and challenging caseload to manage, we’ll encourage you to help us create services which are agile, future-focused, and innovative.  There’ll be opportunities to provide advice and guidance as well as working through manager referrals, preplacement assessments, Service Level Stress Audits, and health surveillance.  Key to this will be the positive relationships you develop and maintain across the Council, with employees and the recognised trade unions.

If you are an experienced Occupational Health Advisor, with post qualification experience in OH Nursing and NMC Registration, then it’s time to get in touch and tell us how you match our brief.

We are always looking for people of the highest calibre whose knowledge, skills and experience will help us provide the best possible service to achieve our vision.

In return, we can offer you excellent terms and conditions such as annual leave, pension scheme, childcare vouchers, annual travel passes and discounts at a number of city centre establishments.

We welcome applications from people with caring responsibilities and flexible working options will be considered.

The Council is a fantastic place to work. You will find an organisation that is both challenging and supportive; with a leadership impatiently adventurous in its pursuit of excellence.

There is a clear vision which is ensuring that the Council is working for communities today and building for tomorrow, we focus our resources on five key priorities:

  • A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
  • An Inclusive Birmingham: through a focus on tackling poverty and inequality, empowering citizens, promoting diversity and civic pride, and supporting and enabling all children and young people to thrive.
  • A Safe Birmingham: through a focus on making the city safer, safeguarding vulnerable citizens, increasing affordable housing, and tackling homelessness.
  • A Healthy Birmingham: through a focus on tackling health inequalities, encouraging physical activity and healthy living, supporting mental health, and improving outcomes for adults with disabilities and older people.
  • A Green Birmingham: through a focus on street cleanliness, improving air quality, continuing the route to net zero, and becoming a city of nature.

We see the Council’s role as providing strategic leadership – that’s being able to visualise a new future for the city and equipping others to share our vision. We want to ensure the provision of services for all, so we can support those least able to support themselves by working with partners and putting citizens and neighbourhoods at the heart of our decision-making.

We are always looking for people who put the customer at the centre of their approach, with a commitment to excellence to help us achieve our vision.  We will support you to develop and thrive in your role, building a pathway for long-term success, with lots of development opportunities, such as apprenticeships.

In return, we offer you excellent terms and conditions, generous annual leave, a great pension scheme, well-being support, annual travel passes and discounts at a number of city centre establishments.
