An interesting opportunity has arisen to join Home Improvement Team (HIA) as a full time HIA Officer. The Home Improvement Team provide major and minor adaptions to people’s homes in Herefordshire depending on their eligibility. In addition, HIA runs a Handyperson scheme for small jobs around the county.

The position is to provide support to the HIA team, which includes surveyors and technicians. So the post holder will have understanding of welfare and housing legislation and experience of working with other agencies.

This position will also provide cover to receive & process incoming referrals to the Home Improvement Agency service and maintain a database of progress with works, to facilitate business processes within the Home Improvement Agency team. To provide a high quality service and hold a caseload of customers requesting assistance with home adaptations, the improvement of housing standards or tenant/landlord issues, and to progress requests in line with relevant legislation, policies and procedures. To provide advice and support to enable the maximum take up of benefits, grants and services among vulnerable households wanting to remain living independently, especially those wishing to repair, adapt or improve their homes, or who wish to consider alternative housing options.

The successful candidate will be expected to work well in a team and also be able to work on their initiative, managing their own workload. The post holder will have the ability to work with vulnerable people and manage sensitive personal information. Good computer skills are essential.
