Job title: Specialist Notetakers

Location: Support required in the North of Staffordshire in higher education institutions.  Office base is Staffordshire Place 2, Stafford (Centre for mileage as agreed)

Salary:

Qualified Specialist Notetaker – manual - £10.39 - £11.02 per hour

Qualified Specialist Notetaker – electronic - £11.02 – £12.42 per hour

Unqualified Specialist Notetaker – manual - £10.19 - £10.39 per hour

Unqualified Specialist Notetaker – electronic - £10.39 - £11.02 per hour

Hours vary depending on availability and demand - Zero Hours Contract

About the role

We are looking to appoint Specialist Notetakers (manual and electronic) to work within the ASSIST team.  Hours will vary dependent on timetable demand and staff availability.  Flexible working is required due to fluid student timetables.  You will provide a manual note taking and/or an electronic notetaking service for people who have a hearing or vision impairment or an autism spectrum condition.  In-house sensory awareness and OCNWMR Level 3 Notetaker training will be provided to ensure consistency and minimum standards are met.  Students/clients are over 16 years of age and require note takers in a variety of educational subjects.  Specialist subject knowledge is not essential.  Previous experience is desirable but not essential as ongoing training, supervision and feedback will be provided. 

What you’ll bring

Applicants will need to be confident in their use of written English; spelling and grammar, be able to write at speed and have clear handwriting.  This will be assessed prior to and during interview.  Other roles within education settings may be available dependent on qualifications, experience and availability, therefore applicants are encouraged to disclose all qualifications, either achieved or working towards.

Duties include:

  1. Note taking within sessions as needed
  2. Simplifying written information as needed
  3. Production of manual or electronic notes in a format appropriate to the needs of the student/client.
  4. Some additional out of class support for students as needed, including but not limited to: help with locating research, submitting assignments, paperwork, document organisation, exam support, sighted guide – full training provided.

Work in education settings is typically over 2 x twelve-week semesters.  Some work in a community situation may also be available during non-teaching times of the year.
