This is an exciting opportunity to work in a management position within the Birmingham Registration Service, the largest civil registration service in the country, employing over 70 staff.

As an Additional Superintendent Registrar Business Development, the postholder will assist in the management and development of the Registration Service in Birmingham providing particular support to the development of the ceremonies area of the Service. To provide a first-class professional Registration service for Birmingham, which fully meets the needs of its customers.

 

The role requires involvement in many aspects of civil registration including attesting notices of marriage and civil partnerships, officiating at marriages and civil partnerships and other duties as required under the Registrations Acts.

The role requires  personal involvement with customers in both a professional and sensitive manner at life defining and emotional moments in their lives.

The job role includes specific responsibility for developing excellent relations with Approved Premises.

The postholder will initiate and oversee projects specific to the introduction or improvement  of income generation schemes or efficiency initiatives within the ceremonies area of the Service.

The postholder will deputise in the absence of the Additional Superintendent Registrar Ceremonies and will carry out the duties of Additional Superintendent Registrar under the legislation relating to registration of births, deaths, stillbirths, marriages and citizenships and of Authorised Person under legislation relating to civil partnerships.

 

Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure in order to meet often changing deadlines. You must be a motivated individual who understands the demands of working within this type of environment and will have a good understanding of the sensitive and confidential nature of the Service.

Excellent organisational and communication skills and a meticulous attention to detail are required. You will have a high degree of self-motivation and commitment working to ensure that the Registration Services are provided to the highest standard according to statute, Council policy and our service aims and objectives.

You must be a team player but equally adept at working on your own. You will also require a positive outlook and be responsive to customer needs, and the needs of the Registration Service.

A thorough knowledge of registration law together with practical experience in registration at a supervisory level is essential.

Extensive experience of dealing with customers regarding sensitive issues

 

The postholder must have worked in the field of civil registration for a minimum of three years and supervised or managed staff for a minimum of three years.

Saturday and Bank Holiday working will be required on a rota basis.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be undertaken

Proof of Right to work in the UK will be required for all applicants in accordance with UK Home Office requirements, before any employment offer can be confirmed.
