Senior Site Technician/Health and Safety Supervisor (five days a week – 30 hours per week)

The Governing Board of Flax Hill Junior Academy (part of Mercia Primary Academy Trust) is seeking to appoint a senior site technician/health and safety supervisor to assist with the effective operation of the school.

 

This is an extremely exciting opportunity to join our school staff and take responsibility with the management and organisation of our substantial school site and buildings.

The successful candidate must:

 

  • Have experience of working within a maintenance environment and knowledge of health and safety procedures/legislation. Have a range of practical knowledge and skills in order to perform caretaking tasks. Be able to demonstrate a strong ability to use their own initiative. Have a positive attitude with excellent communication skills. Have the skills required to build good relationships with contractors working within school as well as with pupils, parents and staff.   • Routine and non-routine opening and closing and security of premises and grounds. Act as a key holder and deal with minor security/safety issues, and respond appropriately to the alarm company, police call-outs and other emergencies outside normal working hours. Provision of access to the building and grounds to authorised persons at all reasonable times. Maintaining constant awareness of the physical condition of the building, furniture and equipment and taking appropriate steps to ensure maintenance and repairs when necessary. Carrying out maintenance and repairs to the building, furniture and equipment within the scope of a competent handy person. Operation of the heating and lighting systems; monitoring usage and promoting energy conversation in the school. Monthly water hygiene testing, and weekly flushing of infrequent outlets will need to form part of the role. The monitoring of all statutory tests and inspections will need to form part of the role. To review inspection reports and action/obtain quotes for necessary defects or repairs. To carry out planned preventative maintenance to drains, roofs, doors and windows. To maintain a record of maintenance requests. Porterage duties as required and particularly the laying out of the furniture and other equipment for timetabled activities without direct instruction. Monitor stock levels and inform the School Office of requirements. Have knowledge and awareness of health and safety practices and policies, have an understanding of COSHH regulations, maintaining records where required. Carry out cleaning work as allocated Be willing to undertake training relevant to the role, including annual safeguarding training. Maintaining the closest possible communications with the School Office, Trust Business Manager and staff of the school, and ensuring an up-to-date knowledge of the needs which will arise in connection with planned activities in the school.
