GRADUATE MANAGEMENT TRAINEE’S (4 Posts)

SALARY: £23953.00 - £27514.00

24 Months Fixed Term Contract (Starting September 2022)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint graduate management trainees at the West Midlands Pension Fund.

The Fund is one of the UK’s largest pension funds providing, from it’s ‘state of the art’ new building at i9 in Wolverhampton, local authority pension benefits for employees across the West Midlands. The Fund manages and administers the pension interests of over 330,000 scheme members, close to 800 employers and currently has over £20 billion in assets under management.

We are now seeking highly talented graduates to join the fund on a two-year graduate scheme within our one of our service areas within Pension Services, Finance and Operations. This will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to develop a career within the West Midlands Pension Fund whilst undertaking a relevant qualification as part of your programme.

For our part, we’ll help to you develop new skills and experience and to make a big impact within the Fund. We’ll help you to achieve qualifications with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) or ACCA. These role will provide you with the variety that comes with working in-house within a Fund and the first-hand experience of engaging with employers and implementing approaches and policies.

Pension Services - Actuarial

  • To support the delivery of the WMPF 2022 actuarial valuation results involving assets and liabilities both in excess of £20bn respectively and the provision of individual results to over 800 employers.
  • Support the collation, analysis and presentation of key employer metrics in a clear, concise and practical way, on an ad hoc basis or in the form of a project based task.
  • To assist with the collation and review of employer covenant information, and discuss related issues and observations with senior colleagues to support covenant the reporting programme, to include consideration of climate change
  • To support on the funding and legal aspects relating to employer applications and service contracts, to include the efficient onboarding and exiting of participating employers.
  • Assist with the review of Employer funding and security in line with the Funding Strategy Statement

Finance 

  • To support the maintenance of financial records, reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Assisting with closedown of final accounts and assisting with responding to audit queries in a timely manner. 
  • To record and input to the financial systems to ensure accurate financial data is captured.
  • To assist with the issuance, review, checking, recording and payment of invoices and the coding of expenditure.

IT/Systems

  • Providing first line ICT support and assistance to users within the Pension Fund.
  • Performing initial diagnosis and progressing to resolution by working with colleagues and our IT partners a variety of Systems / ICT related issues and requests.

In addition, we facilitate a dedicated training programme  to support your learning and development complemented with the support of your line manager and a buddy/mentor.

The successful candidates will hold a degree in a relevant discipline and have the right to work in the UK. If shortlisted you will be required to attend an assessment centre.
