About Us

Heritage and Culture Warwickshire provide a wide range of services that help local communities and visitors to connect and engage with their local heritage. We safeguard Warwickshire’s archives, history and natural sciences, protect its historic and natural environment and provide high quality arts and cultural opportunities and lifelong learning for everyone in the County and beyond.

Heritage and Culture Warwickshire has several sites based in and around Warwick, Market Hall Museum, St Johns House, Warwickshire County Record Office and a Collections Centre for the museum collections. We are a countywide service and working with partners from within and outside Warwickshire County Council offer outreach services to local communities.

Heritage and Culture Warwickshire’s volunteers

There is a wide ranging and active volunteer base already working across the Heritage and Culture Warwickshire teams, some of which have been working on long standing projects for many years. Volunteers are essential in enhancing the visitor experience to our public sites and enhancing access to collections behind the scenes. Behind the scenes our volunteers are involved in collections care with the curatorial team. At the County Record Office volunteers are making the information contained in the archive collections more readily available as well as helping the conversation team with tasks such as cleaning photographic negatives.

At the Market Hall Museum our visitor service volunteers support the Museum Assistant team to meet and greet visitors, give talks and tours and run regular groups such as the monthly knit and natter meet up. Volunteers also work with the Learning and Community Engagement team to support audience engagement with groups such as Arty Tots and Sensory Stay and Play. As well as volunteers working on site, we have a remote volunteer team that work with the archivists transcribing collections from home to populate searchable databases.  Remote volunteering allows us to expand our volunteering base beyond our physical sites which are based in Warwick.

Volunteer Coordinator role

The role of the Volunteer Coordinator is to work with colleagues in teams across Heritage and Culture Warwickshire to ensure volunteers are in the right role and feel fully equipped and trained to do that role.

In the next few years Heritage and Culture Warwickshire would like the Volunteer Coordinator role to also focus on the development of opportunities for volunteering for diverse audiences and communities. We are looking for applicants who will seek out and create opportunities for new audiences to volunteer with Heritage and Culture Warwickshire in line with our Audience Development ambitions to meet the needs of diverse local communities, as well as maintaining and supporting the existing volunteer base.  The Volunteer Coordinator will need to be able to show initiative and self-direction as well as being able to work in partnership with teams across Heritage and Culture Warwickshire. We are keen to find new ways to engage with volunteers and ensure they are getting what they want to gain from volunteering with Heritage and Culture Warwickshire.
