About the role

Do you have a good level of landscape planning knowledge? Are you able to combine your technical know-how with a natural flair to clearly articulate your thoughts and advice? Then you could soon be developing your skills, qualifications and career within Staffordshire County Council’s Environment and Countryside Service.

Staffordshire County Council are looking for a talented, self-motivated and enthusiastic landscape planner to join our specialist team.

As Landscape Specialist you will work on a wide range of projects with colleagues in the service, which will contribute towards planning decisions that shape the future environment of the County.

Your main role will be to work with the County Environment Specialist (Ecology) to provide landscape advice on the impacts of development proposals, and to help manage this impact. Your challenge will be to assess plans and applications for compliance with standards and legislation, support officers with landscape opportunities and issues, and provide advice and support to internal and external projects.

What you’ll bring

The ideal candidate will have a landscape degree, preferably with experience of working in a development management context, have knowledge and experience of using GIS, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills which will assist them in their dealings with planning officers, consultants, contractors, developers and their agents.

To succeed as Landscape Specialist, you will need proven relevant qualifications and understanding, excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate well at all levels with the public, members, and colleagues alike. You’ll also need initiative, and good organisational and time management skills.
