Job Details

We have a fantastic and exciting opportunity for the right people who wants to make a difference to young people and adults in the Dudley Disability Service.

Dudley Council is committed to ongoing improvement and achieving excellence.   As a result there has been a recent focus on the Dudley Disability Service which has led to a remodel of the service and an increased emphasis on strength-based practice, preparing for adulthood, independent living, and high risk and complex care needs.

We have a new head of service and new management within the service that is shaping a new direction.  The service has a clear focus on positive life outcomes for all adults: opportunities to succeed in education and work; to live independently and healthily; to have relationships and friendships; and to be included and involved in their communities. Raising aspirations for disabled adults and those around them, as well as providing integrated, forward-thinking support, is critical for them to achieve their goals and have choice and control over their lives.

There is a recognition that to achieve this we need staff that feel supported, listened to and valued.  We see supporting our staffs professional development by  embracing flexible working, growing a learning and development culture within the service and a commitment to staff welfare is helping us to achieve this.

We are looking to recruit support workers, newly qualified social workers, social workers, and senior social workers who have a history of working in social care to promote better outcomes for young people and adults with disabilities and their families. Understanding of the Children and Families Act 2014, the Children Act 2004, the Care Act 2014, the Mental Health Act 1983/07 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 is imperative.

Our primary goal is to capture the:

  • The voice of young people and families
  • Raising aspirations for a fulfilling life
  • Focus on good life outcomes in the community
  • Being person centred.
  • Plan and execute together.
  • Focus on care and preventative provisions
  • Person-centred safeguarding
  • Support to ensure dignity and respect are promoted at every life stage.

Dudley Disability Service is looking to recruit to 2 Senior Social Worker roles within the Review, and the High Risk and Complex Needs clusters. These are exciting and rewarding opportunities to work with a developing and motivated team delivering strength-based assessments and identifying support with a focus on inclusion and independence.  This is a new way for working which enables a whole life approach to be taken when meeting the needs of people with disabilities.  We are seeking to build on our early successes by recruiting the right people with the desired mind-set and required skill set to take the service to the next level.

Hours:  37 per week 2 Permanent Vacancies – full time

Salary : Grade 10 (£36,371 -  £39,571 per annum)

The ideal candidates will possess highly developed specialist knowledge of social work practice and will be part of a dynamic team which is caring and supportive. Our approach to ensure that adults with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Physical Disabilities and Neurological conditions, and their carers are supported to live healthy, safe, independent, and fulfilling lives, free from harm and abuse through the promotion of wellbeing and choice.

If you are an experienced Social Worker looking for a new opportunity and keen to develop new ways of working and wanting to make a difference then we want to hear from you. In your application, please specify which cluster specifically you wish to apply for. If you have no preference, please state so.

Reviews (1 post)

We have an opportunity for a Senior Social Worker to specifically undertake statutory Care Act reviews on behalf of the team. They will champion the use of technology to support independence. They will support a range of projects where people need to be reviewed as part of the project.

High Risk and Complex Needs Cluster (1 post)

This cluster will focus on providing a focused approach to supporting people in crisis or experiencing complex challenges. This will include supporting people who are at risk of hospital admission, or require discharge from secure placements. Your focus will be on putting support in place to reduce crisis and the risk of emergency admissions, with use of place based alternatives to emergency placements. You will work with people in a strengths based, person centred way focusing on strengths rather than deficits. Workers will have small caseloads so they can intensively work cases.
