Thank you very much for your interest in our position of Horticulture Tutor here at Heart of Birmingham Vocational College (we all like to call the college ‘HBVC’, it’s so much easier to say!). This is a fantastic opportunity to join our successful teaching and learning team and contribute to our continued growth and success.

HBVC is an exciting and innovative college with a reputation for high-quality provision that is responsive to the needs of our learners. Based in Birmingham, we specialise in providing excellent education and support to learners with diverse and additional needs. We offer full-time Study Programmes that provide individualised learning experiences, whilst developing learner’s key employability and supported living skills. Our entire staff team are very passionate about making HBVC a great place for everyone to be and are committed to enabling learners to fulfil their aspirations. We have a unique approach to ensuring everyone feels a part of our college which is reflected in our core values of Openness, Challenge, Excellent, Development and Inclusion.

We have made it our mission to provide an inspirational learning environment for person centred vocational education in a community-based setting, enabling learners to achieve exceptional outcomes. Our vision is to empower our learners to prepare themselves for the next stage of their adult lives by providing them with transferable skills that enable them to become purposeful independent individuals and to find their place in their community.

We first opened our doors in 2014 with 10 learners and 3 staff. Since then, we have successfully grown the college to what it is today, with over 105 students and 71 staff. We are an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ college and I am now looking for a Horticulture Tutor to join my team and contribute towards achieving ‘Outstanding’ status.

In partnership with The Edgbaston Priory Club, HBVC will be launching a Horticulture programme in September 2022 which will support all of our learners to learn new skills and make excellent progress towards individual outcomes, which will include achieving paid employment on completion of their time at college.

Working as part of the teaching and learning team, you will lead on the implementation and delivery of the curriculum to deliver excellence in Teaching, Learning and Assessment in order to give all learners an Outstanding experience and to maximise learner success and progress towards their vocational, independence, social and personal goals.

As you read this and consider whether this is the job for you, I would like to tell you a little about what it is like to work for HBVC. Our vision, values and mission encompass the views of all staff working with us and are at the core of everything we all do. We have a strong culture of high performance, continuous improvement, teamwork, and open communication. In return for your hard work and dedication, we can promise an investment in you and your future, offering a competitive remuneration and benefits package and excellent professional development.

If you are enthusiastic and well organised, have experience in working in both an education and industry setting within the field of Horticulture, or are an experienced/skilled tutor with some experience or an interest in Horticulture and you are willing to undertake further training then I would encourage you to consider applying for this role.
