Job Details

The Procurement Team is responsible for how the Council spends money with third parties and how our spend maximises the impact of each pound in contributing to delivering our City Strategy.

Our vision is; “To secure demonstrable value for money and maximise the benefits from spend with third parties, supporting delivery of innovative, cost effective and high-quality services for the people of Wolverhampton, meeting the highest standards of legal and procurement practice and undertaking such activities in the most efficient manner possible.”

An opportunity has arisen for 2 commercially aware, ambitious Procurement Buyers to join the team.

The roles will support the team across several categories such as Social Care, Public Health, Construction, ICT, Professional and Corporate Services. Which will include providing procurement and contract management support.

The role involves developing procurement and contract knowledge and providing advice to the procurement team, the wider Council and external stakeholders.

Therefore, it will be beneficial if you bring some basic procurement knowledge and stakeholder holder management experience; Including the ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships although this is not essential as full training will be given. In addition, it will also be advantageous that you can see the big picture and look for opportunities to deliver improvement and efficiency.

Ideally, you are committed to developing professionally and willing to work towards attaining CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) qualifications.

As part of your professional development the role will also entail working across the categories identified above over a two-year period, following which an opportunity may arise to work on your desired category, however, this will be determined by business need.
