Fixed-term 14 months contract

National Minimum Wage for Age:
23 and over: £9.50 per hour
21 to 22: £9.18 per hour
18 to 20: £6.83 per hour
Under 18: £4.81 per hour

We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Customer Adviser to join our team, at the Customer Experience Centre.

From bins, to bulky items, street cleaning, mowing, pruning, fly tipping, trees, parks, highways and planning/building control and Clean and Green, which provides services to support residents and businesses in Walsall. As Customer Adviser apprentice you will play a vital role to provide a professional service to our customers which is in line with our customer experience principles - helpful, empowering, accessible, responsive and transparent.

You will actively be involved in promoting positive change across the council, for example shifts to digital channels and will learn to liaise with other members of staff where complex issues require assistance

In this 14-month fixed-term role we can offer you a wide variety of on the job learning opportunities to develop your skills, as well as the employer supported, nationally accredited Customer Service Practioner Level 2 qualification to add to your portfolio.  You can access a wide range of Walsall Council’s employee Learning & Development training too. 

Understanding the breadth of the services we provide to our residents and customers is key in acting as our first line of support, providing resolutions to customers where possible using tact, diplomacy and empathy to diffuse potentially tense confrontations in a positive and calm manner. To develop this knowledge, you’ll be involved in a wide range of essential business activities for the service, including assisting the Operational Management Teams for Waste Services and Street Cleansing & Grounds Maintenance. Supporting the Commercial Team with Trade Waste and Clinical Waste customers is also an important part of the role.

For this role the successful candidates must undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.  BPSS is the minimum standard to ensure the identity and integrity of an employee who has access to official information using secure networks linking central government and local authorities.  A BPSS check involves four main elements; Identity Check, National and Immigration Status, Employment History (last 3 years) and Verification of Criminal Record (unspent convictions only).

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.  The postholder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
