Our role

 

As a team manager you will be responsible for your team of Senior Practitioners, Social Workers, and Family Support staff, leading, coaching, and supporting them to deliver for our communities ensuring we meet the needs of our children, young people and their families.

 

You’ll be:

 

- Leading on the delivery of the statutory responsibilities of the Authority relating to children’s safeguarding (in the broadest sense) under the Children and Families Act 2017 and its contextual framework through Working Together 2015 and other relevant legislation e.g., Education Act 1996, Children Act 1989, Adoption & Children Act 2006

 

- Look after the day-to-day practice and the safe allocation of work and to ensure these are progressed in accordance with the statutory frameworks (as applicable)

 

- Make sure professional practice and supervision is delivered throughout the team following the principles of the knowledge and skills statements for social workers and in line with Children and Social Work Act 2017

 

- Look for ways we can improve through audits and quality assurance, identifying needs for training; benchmarking and where needed you will interpret legislation and then ensure this is trained out and understood across your team

 

- You will sometimes need to Investigate and respond to complaints, and you will look after MP enquiries and complex case enquiries e.g., involvement in serious case reviews or learning reviews

 

- You will participate and work in partnership through relevant boards, e.g., LSCB, partnership committees, locality arrangements and other meetings as necessary

 

- Work with local, regional, national, and multi-agency partnerships to influence, support and maintain best practice

 

- Share information with partners and stakeholders to meet legal requirements and support the effective provision of the safeguarding of children and young people.

 

- You will ensure effective management and use of all available resource including staff and finance making sure they are regulatory compliant and in accordance with SCC’s guidance.

 

What you’ll bring

 

You will need to be:

 

- A qualified Social Worker

 

- Ideally with an additional qualification in a related area, or you will be able to demonstrate skills, knowledge, and ability such as being a Practice Educator

 

- Experience leading and coaching others

 

- Have excellent supervision skills and an ability to enable practitioners to utilise reflective practice, so, perhaps you’ve coached and mentored other Social Workers before, and you find developing others comes naturally to you

 

- Be confident in your knowledge of legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure you can guide and advise the team effectively

 

- Be a good communicator, able to build relationships with and influence all types of stakeholders, from those colleagues in your team to external bodies and senior leadership

 

- You will be able to deal with conflicting demands and deadlines but your experience so far within Social Work will have prepared you for what to expect

 

And above all, you will bring the desire to work with children and families to give them the right support, at the right time with the aim of keeping families together where it’s safe to do so.
