Community Academy Governance Committee members (governors)

We are currently seeking Academy Governance Committee (AGC) members (Community governors) to support the management of the school and enable the school to run as effectively as possible.  AGC members work alongside senior leaders and supporting teachers to provide excellent education to children.  Being an AGC member (governor) is a commitment to attending Academy Governance Committee meetings as well as termly visits to school to assist with monitoring.  AGC members are also involved in the school community, acting as critical friends to the headteacher and senior leaders. AGC members bring a wide range of skills and expertise from their professional lives to the committee and schools benefit greatly from working with volunteers with a variety of backgrounds.

AGC members (governors) have the following responsibilities:

• Provide support, monitoring and challenge around educational experience and performance

• Church, community, and stakeholder engagement

• Support alignment with Trust strategy, approach, ethos, and values.

• To develop a detailed knowledge of the school community through focused visits.

• To be supportive of the school, its Head Teacher, and staff.

• To attend meetings of the AGC.

Personal qualities of an AGC member:

• Integrity and good interpersonal skills.

• A genuine interest in and enthusiasm for education.

• A willingness and capacity to serve for four years.

• A willingness and capacity to learn.

Being an AGC member (school governor) is a chance to experience strategic leadership at any point in one’s career. The role provides individuals with the opportunity to develop and hone skills such as negotiation, influencing and teamwork. Volunteers need to be dedicated people who care about improving education, but they do not need prior governance or board experience. It makes the role perfect for professionals looking to improve their business and leadership skills, give back to society and enhance children’s futures.

Hours: Subject to agreement in advance- This will vary with the cycle of the school year, but it is anticipated to equate to approximately 1 day per term, including both school time and evening meetings. The hours will likely be split into several activities across the period.

Application forms and further details are available below or by contacting the school on the above telephone number or email https://diocese-of-coventry-mat.secure-primarysite.net/community-agc-members-governors/, HR@covmat.org
