22 hours, 12 minutes per week (3 x days)

An exciting opportunity for a Blue Badge Assessor has arisen to join our established in-house Blue Badge Team in Walsall.  We are looking for a motivated and conscientious part-time Blue Badge Assessor who has a broad knowledge of health conditions (both physical and non-physical) and the impact that they can have on activities of daily living, specifically walking during the course of a journey.

The appropriate candidate should have the ability to understand the Department for Transport’s Blue Badge Guidance and the confidence to employ this to make eligibility decisions.

Essential shortlisting requirement:

  • You will need both experience in the assessment of adults and children with complex needs, and essentially be registered as an Occupational therapist with the HCPC / or registered as a Physiotherapist with the HCPC / or registered as a General Nurse with NMC

As a Blue Badge Assessor you will be expected to work as part of the Blue Badge Team to determine whether applicants meet the eligibility criteria set out by the Department for Transport.

The main duties you will be required to undertake:

  • To manage an individual caseload of both walking ability and hidden disability applications from screening stage through to the final decision.
  • To complete a desk-based screening tool based on the information provided at screening stage.
  • To correspond effectively and efficiently with applicants/family members/carers/other professionals, which can include:
    Complex written and verbal correspondence explaining the Department for Transport’s criteria.
    Requesting further medical evidence via letter/email if required.
    Telephoning for further information or clarification of provided information if required.
    Completing full in-depth assessments as required.
  • To participate in panel meetings to review decisions made if a request for a review has been received from an applicant.
  • To participate in panel meetings to allow case discussions to be held with other assessors to assist eligibility decisions.
  • To ensure accurate, timely and quality documentation of case progression on the appropriate electronic systems.
  • To ensure procedures are followed and deadlines met with all work undertaken.
  • To assist in the review of documentation, procedures and deadlines to ensure that all remain fit for purpose and maintain efficiency.
  • To liaise effectively with the administration teams to work towards a common goal, including information sharing and supporting others.
