Full/ part time Class C LGV Driver

Do you hold a LGV Cat C licence, and would you like to help us with recycling?

Can you drive a hook lift vehicle or are you interested in learning?

If the answer is yes then we have the perfect opportunity for you.

Warwickshire County Council provides nine well used and valued public recycling facilities across Warwickshire and we are committed to reducing waste and its impact upon the environment. We are looking for Class C drivers to join us and help us with this mission. We use hook lift vehicles and full training on the use of the hook lift will be given.

We are flexible and looking for full time or part time LGV Cat C licenced drivers. Being a seven day a week service, we need drivers who can work every other weekend, both Saturday and Sunday.

Overtime is available – hours worked above 37 hours and Sundays are paid at time and a half. Bank holidays are paid double time.

The Role

As a Hook Lift Driver you will keep our household waste recycling centres and transfer stations running efficiently and safely on behalf of Warwickshire County Council. You will do this by transporting roll on roll off skips to maintain capacity in this important and popular public service. If you do not have experience of using a hook lift we will fully train you. Our drivers work on their own initiative to ensure that the waste management service is running as efficiently as possible and that materials are taken for appropriate recycling and disposal.

Positives:

  • No night work so you finish and go home every day
  • Regular start and finish times and locations
  • Limited number of journeys per day (usually less than 10) all within the region
  • Full training will be given for use of the hook lift
  • Good employer with good benefits inc sick pay and annual leave
  • Local Government Pension Scheme

Recycling Centres are open every day of the week because people like to recycle and dispose of their materials at weekends and bank holidays. We invite people who can work alternate weekends to apply. The job also involves driving on landfill.

Salary:

Scale F: £20,444 - £22,129 plus 15% (ie plus £3066 at the bottom end and plus £3319 at the top). The Market Supplement is confirmed until March 2024. Pay award pending.

Average 37 hours a week but overtime is available.

We can offer full time or part time contracts and overtime is available above 37 hours.

Key Requirements

To be successful you will be a team player with a positive outlook and able to use your own initiative. You will have good communication skills and be able to relay information accurately and in a timely manner. You will have great driving skills and be able to remain calm in challenging situations. You will have at least basic reading and writing and be numerate to complete load and transfer documentation (basic training will be given where appropriate). As a primary frontline service for the Authority you will keep a smart appearance and maintain a professional manner.
