Rooted in collaboration, Black Country Transport brings together officers from the four Black Country local authorities; Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton, with a team of central officers to provide project management of cross-boundary transport schemes. By working collaboratively, we can assist the local authorities with developing projects that span more than one borough and encourage consistency of provision across the Black Country region.

Black Country Transport is innovative in its approach to roads by ensuring they cater for all by providing for walking, cycling, cars, lorries, and public transport. The projects we develop also work with new technologies, such as optimised traffic signals that can alter their timings depending on traffic demand, and electric vehicle charge points.

Working across the 4 Black Country Local Authorities the Black Country Transport Team has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our team. 

The post holder will provide specialist transportation modelling expertise and advice on highway and public transport schemes and emerging development plan proposals for the Black Country. Undertake economic and other evaluation procedures for transportation proposals and provide input into the necessary funding bid documents. Undertake transport monitoring and co-ordinate its input into the Black Country Local Transport Plan. To co-ordinate with the Black Country UTC to evaluate and provide strategic advice on future developments and Transport Schemes

The post holder will form part of a team delivering cross boundary and multi modal transport schemes aiming to combine normal highway improvements, cycling and Walking measures, Bus Priority and Signal enhancements. The aim to is create a series of sustainable urban corridors across the Black Country that not only improve connections to key destinations, but also enhanced places for local communities. 

Ability to work collaboratively across different organizations. The role will most likely require cross boundary working and also with officers at key organizations such as Transport for West Midlands, Highways England, Midlands Connect and the Department for Transport. 

  • Experience of developing transport models 
  • Experience of managing consultants 
  • Experience of critically assessing transport models
