Help protect your local community – join our team of On-Call Firefighters!

On-Call firefighting can be for anyone, it could be the ideal job for someone who now works from home, a parent who needs flexible working hours, someone with some spare time, is unemployed or even someone in full-time employment.? 

If you would like to be an On-Call Firefighter, you must live or work within five minutes travel from the fire station you will be based at. If you can work remotely for you full time employer, then you can work from any of our fire stations. The job involves a number of hours where you must be available for call outs via a pager.? 

We are looking for dedicated and committed people to deliver modern fire and rescue services within your local community. Join us at this exciting time?and we will provide you with a high level of training and a chance to be part of a professional team.? 

The essential requirements

Aged 18 and above on or before the initial course date  Able to reach the station within five minutes of a call at normal road speed  Able to attend a drill session once a week at your On-Call station  Have permission from your employer if responding to calls from work 


 
The Role

There is a requirement to attend a weekly training drill session for at least two hours at your local fire station. 

On-call Firefighters receive a basic salary and are paid extra for any call out’s, training courses, drill periods.?? 

On average you could earn between £5000 and £8000 per year.?

The Application Process
 

Once you have submitted your application and your On-Call address has been verified (if remote working please put the fire station address), you will be invited to attend the following stages:? 
 

On-Call Firefighter Awareness Day (optional) - Date TBC  Written assessments - Date TBC  Role Related Physical - Assessments Date TBC  Interview – Date TBC Medical and Fitness test – Date TBC 

You must pass each stage of the process to progress to the next.? 

If successful in all assessments and pre-employment checks completed, you will be expected to attend the initial recruit training course.
