Co-opted Governors (2 Posts)

Summerhill is an oversubscribed, high performing 11-16 Local Authority Maintained School within the town of Kingswinford and the Governing Board are looking for co-opted governors to join us.  As a governor you will be a volunteer who makes a vital contribution to the success of the school.

School governors have three main roles:

  1. To set the strategic direction of the school. The governing board helps to set long-term plans for the school, decide where improvements need to be made and how to make them.
  2. To hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and the effective and efficient performance management of staff. The governing board looks at the quality of education being offered and ensures the Headteacher is doing everything possible to improve results.
  3. To oversee the financial effectiveness of the school, making sure the money is well spent. Governors examine budgets and spending proposals to monitor whether the school is getting value for money and ensure the money is spent in the right areas.

We are looking for dedicated individuals who can offer their knowledge and expertise in one or more of these areas; human resources, legal, marketing, communication, business, but we invite applications from anyone who is interested in helping the school be the best it can be.  Full training is available and governors are encouraged to attend regular training sessions, either in person or online.

We are looking for individuals who can attend approximately three full governing board meetings per year and around six committee meetings per year.  Meetings are held in school, usually on Wednesday evenings from around 5.30pm to 8.00pm. Governors also spend time in school during the day (around one/two visits per term).

If you would like to find out more information about becoming a Governor please email Carol Fletcher, Chair of Governors, at cfletcher@summerhill.dudley.sch.uk.
