Apprenticeship Opportunity at Warwickshire County Council
The Transport Planning team at Warwickshire County Council is offering an exciting opportunity, as an alternative to a full-time degree, to join their Team as a Transport Planning Degree Apprentice. The apprenticeship is a great opportunity to work with experienced Transport Planners and to earn a salary, whilst working towards a BSc Transport Planning Degree with our academic partners at Aston University, Birmingham.
About us
The Transport Planning team is dedicated to developing an effective transport network in Warwickshire which will support our communities and the County’s ambitious plans for growth. In recent years the team’s work has included delivering new rail stations and major new or improved road and cycle infrastructure. There is much more to come, with the team working on the development and delivery of an extensive pipeline of schemes across all modes of transport, including responding to fast moving emerging transport technology such as electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles.
About the role
As a Degree Apprentice you will be assisting other Transport Planners within the team to develop transport policies and projects to meet the Council’s strategic priorities as set out in the Council Plan 2022-27 and to respond to the UK Government’s plan for decarbonising transport.
The role will provide a varied and challenging workload and provide an opportunity to build a successful career in transport planning as well as gaining experience working in local government. You will be involved with the production of feasibility studies for new schemes, technical work to assess the benefits of transport schemes and scheme impacts, writing bids for funding and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders and members of the public.
Key skills and experience required
To be successful in this role you will need to be motivated and have good organisational skills. You will need strong IT skills and the ability to learn to use new specialist software packages. As you will be working with a wide range of internal and external colleagues and partners, you will need to have good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
