A rare opportunity has arisen for a Historic Environment Record and Project Support Assistant to join our busy Planning Service at Worcester City Council.

The main purpose of the role is to provide technical, research and administrative support to historic environment professionals working with heritage assets in a development management context and in relation to heritage related special projects including Worcester Life Stories.

As the Historic Environment Record and Project Support Assistant you will mainly be supporting the Historic Environment Record Officer with day-to-day administration and research relating to heritage projects including events as well as dealing with responses on heritage related enquiries from the development management team.

The key requirements for this role are;

  1. Degree in discipline relevant to skills required for this role, for example Archaeology, Historic Building Conservation, History or Geography.
  2. Membership of Chartered Institution of Archaeologists, or Institute of Historic Building Conservation or have undertaken relevant studies leading to eligibility for membership.

As a Historic Environment Record and Project Support Assistant, you will need to be able to assist in the delivery of a strategy for income generation for heritage-related activities including research and responses to service requests on the Historic Environment Record (HER), from commercial and academic customers as well as the general public.

You will need to be able to support the HER Officer by undertaking research and preparing evidence to enhance the quality and scope of the HER to the benefit of the development management, planning policy and wider public interests through improved accessibility and quality of data, you will also need to be able to create, catalogue and maintain records including but not limited to the HER, relating to written reports, photographic material and maps, ordering and cataloguing including the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

You will be expected to assist the HER Officer on community-based projects for the delivery of corporate and service objectives relating to the historic environment, increasing engagement in and understanding of our city.
