Job title: BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER
Location: Office Base: 2 Staffordshire Place, Tipping Street, Stafford, Staffordshire, ST16 2DH – required to work throughout Staffordshire (and surrounds occasionally)
Salary: £32,798- £37,568 per annum
Essential Car User allowance (fully qualified only)
Contract type: Permanent Hours per week: 37, full time
Part time working can be considered.
About the role
ASSIST has a long history of providing high quality, responsive support for people with sensory impairments in Staffordshire and its surrounds. The Service is ever moving forward, developing new ideas and ventures whilst maintaining its core values.
This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and forward-thinking British Sign Language (BSL/English) interpreter to work within the ASSIST team. The Team requires someone who has experience working with a range of deaf people, including those with additional needs such as deafblind/learning difficulties. Working days/times may vary, including out of hours.
What you’ll bring
You will provide interpreting and translation services for internal and external partners as required in a variety of settings including health, education, and legal/quasi-judicial contexts.
You will contribute to the delivery of INSET and participate in the mentorship, training, and assessment of others in relation to the development of BSL skills.
You will also have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in relation to other sensory impairments; deafblind, vision impairment and autism spectrum conditions.
Please note: This job is also open to trainee BSL interpreters who are eligible to be on the NRCPD register. During training, you will receive support and mentoring in order to achieve full registration. You will be appointed at Grade 8 £27,514 – £31,895 (and certain roles restricted) until full qualification status is achieved. During training, you will be eligible for Casual Car User allowance. You will be required to obtain full registration within agreed timescales.
