Our Federation offers a unique opportunity for a very special kind of HLTA to work in a single phase school, as well as the chance to work alongside colleagues from other phases, in order to continue to learn and to grow. Our provision for children with additional needs is exceptional. Our staff are too. We never stop being curious about what our children need and how we can meet that need in the most appropriate and personalized way for that child.

We need a truly inspirational HLTA who shares our vision of ensuring full inclusion for every child, no matter what their needs. Your specialism may be in Early Years, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.

This role is specifically working within our Inclusion team, supporting the development of our specialist provisions and predominantly working with children who have Communication and Interaction as their primary area of need with associated Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will be expected to work alongside teaching staff but also lead smaller group provisions.

You need resilience, strength of character and a professional curiosity in order to support our children’s needs which can be many and varied. You also need to really relish the times when we get it right for a child and where, through giving them the right support, you see them become happier, more confident, more independent and making progress.

Starting as soon as possible, we can offer permanent and fixed term contracts

You will have significant experience of working with children on the Autistic Spectrum and ADHD. You will have a working knowledge of Attachment and Trauma in children and how adverse childhood experiences can affect some children’s ability to reach their true potential. You will advocate the belief that every behaviour is a communication of an unmet need and that, if something isn’t working, it’s because we haven’t got it right for that child yet.

About You:

  • Enjoy motivating and exciting children about learning
  • Able to demonstrate resilience
  • Have been involved in the delivery of an adapted curriculum
  • Have used Boxall Profiling or similar to measure progress
  • Have experience of working with children with ADHD, ASC, SLD and MLD as well as those who are trauma experienced
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team
  • Are able to use your own initiative
  • High levels of emotional intelligence
  • Skilled at using teacher’s planning to adapt and deliver in class support, individual and small group intervention
  • Have GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Are able to support children to be independent learners
  • Keen to develop yourself and others
  • Imaginative, curious, intuitive, energetic, enthusiastic, and hardworking
  • Don’t mind getting messy sometimes!

About us:

  • Enthusiastic, highly motivated, happy children and families
  • A highly inclusive school where every child deserves opportunities to succeed that are appropriate to them
  • A highly skilled inclusion team, who are committed to maintaining high standards and getting it right for children whilst still having fun!
  • A structured programme of CPD, working closely with colleagues in our federated schools
  • Opportunities to work across Walsall schools in sharing effective practice
  • Driving forward change in Walsall using nurture, restorative practice and specialist learning provisions
  • Supervision available where needed
  • Trailblazer school in mental health
  • Restorative practice lead in school
  • Autism Education Trust Hub School
  • Nurture Hub School

Company

Our mission statement is:

Every day,
In every way,
Everyone matters.

short heath

Short Heath Federation was formed in 2006 when Lane Head Nursery School, Rosedale Church of England Infant School and Short Heath Junior School joined forces under one governing body. Since then, we haven’t looked back!

Each of our schools is led by a Head of School – they are in charge of the day to day running of their school, as well as working together with the Executive Headteacher on the strategic improvement of all of our schools. All three of them are amazingly talented school leaders - specialists in their field. The Executive Head takes responsibility for the development of the federation (with a primary focus on continually improving the quality of teaching and learning in our schools), as well as supporting other schools in an advisory role and carrying out Ofsted Inspections in schools in the West Midlands Region.

We never stand still andshort heath since we federated, we have gone from strength to strength. Lane Head is an outstanding nursery school and Rosedale and Short Heath are both good schools. Across all schools we have an incredibly talented team of staff – every single one of them. We have more Specialist Leaders of Education than we have ever had before – we see ourselves as lifelong learners and are constantly researching effective practice and implementing even better teaching practices in our schools. Our leading practitioners enjoy using action research to further improve what we do.

We are very proud that we are able to support other schools in Walsall. We have a rapidly growing reputation as a centre of excellence and others are always keen to learn from what we do. We aspire to provide the very best possible education that we can for our children. It’s important to us that we support every aspect of a child’s development – personal, social and emotional, as well as academic.

One of our many particular strengths, and one that we are especially proud of, is that we focus on the very specific needs of every child – we really do mean it when we say ‘Every Day, in Every Way, Everyone Matters’. All staff believe that every single child has the potential to be exceptional – we do our very best to make sure we give them all of the opportunities that they need.  Our children deserve the best!

Although we are a federation, each of our schools has its own unique character and it’s always been important to us that we keep it that way. You can find out much more about each school on their individual website.

Another strength, and something that makes our federation unusual, is that one of our schools is a Church of England School. From the beginning it has been important to us all that we have a strong Christian ethos across all of our schools and we are extremely fortunate to have Furzebank Worship Centre on site as well as an extremely supportive vicar and church community. Without doubt, our outstanding Christian distinctiveness makes our settings extra special.

The future is exciting. We are looking forward to being able to welcome 90 children into our Reception classes from 2019, instead of the 60 we can currently take. We are looking forward to continuing to develop the extensive range of support that we give to our families beyond.

I am extremely proud to lead Short Heath Federation. Our children are amazing and make every single day fulfilling. We love what we do and we know that you will love it too.
