Job Details

There has never been such an exciting time to work for Sandwell Council. We have significant regeneration opportunities across the Borough including £67.4m of Towns Fund monies and the opportunity to bid for a further circa £80m from the Levelling Up Fund, a metro extension creating opportunities for growth, and the delivery of a world class aquatics centre on time for the Commonwealth Games bringing a wealth of cultural and economic benefits.

A Regeneration Strategy and Pipeline is in place that sets out £1.8bn of regeneration opportunities and projects across the Borough over the next 5 years to deliver major benefits and outcomes for Sandwell’s economy and residents.

Masterplans have been adopted setting the vision to Level Up West Bromwich Town Centre and the corridor from Birmingham to Smethwick building on the £600m+ investment in the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. Sandwell is looking to recruit a Capital Project Manager to play a central role in the regeneration of the Borough by taking the lead role in the delivery of a number of high profile, high priority regeneration projects. The first project that you will lead is the Legacy Build for the Sandwell Aquatics Centre with our construction partner Wates to deliver the best community leisure facility in the UK by Summer 2023.

The post holder will work in collaboration with council teams, partner organisations, and other stakeholders. A general understanding of council policies in relation to procurement, governance, decision making, risk and budget management would be beneficial but is not essential and we welcome applicants from the private, charitable and public sectors.

You will be educated to degree level or have substantial project management experience and able to work at the highest level - driving forward delivery whilst also effectively managing risk. Key to this role is leading complex projects so you must be experienced at managing projects and be able to evidence project management competencies.

Essential:

Able to demonstrate extensive experience of managing projects with values between £10m and £50m

Practitioner Level Prince 2 qualification or other equivalent project management qualification.
