Permanent Contract

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Community Development Worker to join our Community Wellbeing Team, to undertake work around supporting community work in the district.

The successful applicant needs to be a team player, an excellent communicator and have the skills and ability to communicate with officers/councillors and local communities. The aim of this post is to implement effective, genuine and creative community involvement processes and to build sustainable capacity within identified communities. The role of Community Development Worker will take an asset-based approach to their community work, utilising the strengths and attributes of a community and working alongside and enabling residents to achieve their own ideas for their communities rather than going in with fixed agendas.

You will need to have a strong commitment with the ability to work to with groups and individuals by actively engaging with them, especially those who are most disadvantaged and vulnerable through active engagement and direct interventions. The greatest challenge of this post will be to build and maintain the trust and appropriate involvement of all sectors of the community, especially harder to reach residents and the most disadvantaged and vulnerable.

The post holder will need to have the ability to engender a sense of ownership and community spirit and encourage collective action, for example the formation of residents’ groups or specific interest groups.

A working knowledge of IT applications, particularly in relation to Microsoft Office and other database management systems is essential.

Applicants must hold a full valid driving license and ideally be willing to work in the evening and weekends when necessary.

For further information about the post please contact Bernadette Allen, Community Wellbeing Team Leader 01926 456020.
