The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need.
We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.
We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning. In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.
Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas:
- Nursery Workers
- Teaching Assistants
- Leadership/Management; and
- Customer Care.
We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop.
Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?
As MIS Officer you will manage a small, dedicated team, that ensures our learner data is accurate and meets the funding rules. You will also ensure that data returns are submitted on time. In addition, you will liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Coventry Adult Education Service is a successful Adult Education provider covering a wide range of provision including Community Learning, skills courses such as Functional Skills, Apprenticeships and Study Programmes. The MIS Officer is a critical part of our service, acting as a central hub for all curriculum areas. The MIS team handles data for around 5000 learners every year in accordance with data security and GDPR legislation.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).Who are we looking for?
When applying please ensure you base your personal statement on the information given below and in the attached job description/person specification. Candidates are shortlisted on their skills and experience against this information.
You will have:
- Experience of working with electronic management information systems, ideally in a learning environment (we use ProSolution)
- Experience of data collection and processing
- Excellent IT skills
- Experience of completing contractual or statutory returns within strict quality control guidelines
- Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise both your own and your team’s work to meet challenging deadlines
- Excellent English and Maths skills (GCSE 4/C or above)
- Experience of managing a team
- Knowledge of post-16 funding rules is highly desirable. You will need to be able to understand, interpret and apply the DfE funding rules as well as advise other staff on learner eligibility under these rules.
