Learning Support Assistant Grade 3

8.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday

St. Mary’s CE (VA) Primary School is seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to work alongside our friendly, dedicated and supportive team who are committed to providing the best provision for our pupils who range from 2 to 11 years old.

This position is to work within our Nursery provision initially, catering for children from 2 years to 4 years, and also to provide support in our Early Years Language Unit.

Applicants must hold a relevant NVQ or equivalent qualification and have experience of working within a school context.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a strong background in speech and language
  • Be able to work independently with pupils using speech and language programmes
  • Have a thorough knowledge of safeguarding
  • Believe that young children are important members of our school family and have much to contribute
  • Observe, guide and extend the children during active play/learning sessions
  • Record and act upon observations of pupils
  • Monitor and support children’s development across all areas of learning, in a range of contexts including outdoors
  • Assist with planning and preparation of resources and learning materials and the development and maintenance of an appropriate learning environment
  • Create visually appropriate, stimulating and interactive classroom materials and displays
  • Thrive as a member of the whole school staff team
  • Assist with the pastoral care of children
  • Support children during meal times
  • Undertake a range of duties within the school setting

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of following and interpreting Speech and Language reports
  • Experience of teaching within EYFS with evidence of having achieved positive outcomes
  • Knowledge and understanding of how children learn
  • A sound grasp on the concept of inclusive practice
  • A good knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Experience of working closely with parents and successful home-school partnerships that support pupils’ needs
  • Knowledge and experience of using basic diagnostic tests for identifying specific needs
