About Us

There’s more to law than corporates.

At Warwickshire Legal Services, we run a very different kind of in-house legal team. We have the freedom to practise as a business within Warwickshire County Council, generating our own income from internal teams and a diverse pool of public sector clients. We are looking for dynamic leaders with a real commitment to making Warwickshire the best it can be, now and for future generations.

Few councils operate this way, and our approach gives you a unique environment to further your career by leading an award-winning group of innovative legal professionals, working with diverse clients and on challenging projects. As a Delivery Lead you will have responsibility for three large teams, be part of the Management Team for Warwickshire Legal Services and have a hands-on role in shaping and developing the Service for the future.

Warwickshire has an ambitious agenda which focuses on developing a thriving economy; ensuring people can live safely, healthily, and happily; and creating a county with a sustainable future. This third, new priority also reflects the importance of taking concerted action on climate change. Together these priorities support the Council’s ambition to make Warwickshire the best it can be, sustainable now and for future generations.

At the County Council we know we must continuously improve and adapt to make our direction a reality, and it’s our teams of dedicated people who will make this happen. We are committed to equality, inclusion, and diversity, and in this role, you will be able to apply your knowledge and abilities to improve the county and see just how much of a meaningful difference you make to its people. It’s a big responsibility that can be challenging at times, but this is what drives us to succeed and achieve.

On top of this, you can take advantage of the benefits that come with a non-corporate practice. You’ll see cases through to completion, enjoy a high level of responsibility and get more hands-on experience while getting a better work-life balance and greater flexibility.

In short, we are an ambitious, nationally recognised team that wants to deliver consistently outstanding legal work. If you’re someone who is prepared to get stuck in, who wants to do the best job possible, who approaches everything with passion and purpose, then we would welcome your application.

About the Role

We’re looking for a driven, ambitious Leader to join our award-winning, nationally recognised legal service. At Warwickshire, our people come first. As a Delivery Lead you will manage a diverse group of talented and dedicated lawyers. You will be trusted to lead the most challenging legal projects for a wide variety of public sector clients and be a fundamental part of growing the service and ensuring we maintain our well-earned reputation for excellence. Together with high quality training and unrivalled opportunities in an ambitious local authority, you’ll also be able to take advantage of the greater flexibility and a work-life balance that’s hard to find in the private sector.

Even before Covid we and our clients worked in an agile manner, and it is important that we continue to develop and adapt - our agile working arrangements offer flexibility to work within the office environment and remotely subject to the need to deliver the excellent client service we are known for and to support each other in our continued professional growth and development.

We are seeking an experienced senior legal practitioner with a track record of managing high performing teams in a complex and busy environment.  You will play an active role as part of our service working in partnership with colleagues to innovate our service delivery capabilities and support the Council’s ambition to make Warwickshire the best it can be, now and for future generations.

You will support the Service Manager and other Delivery Leads and Team Leads in achieving our organisational vision and outcomes and in developing and maintaining good working relationships with our range of key stakeholders including the senior leadership team, statutory partners, service providers, voluntary sector and customers both internal and external.  You will also have a leading role in marketing our services to new clients in order to grow our external business.

As Delivery Lead you will have responsibility for leading the teams delivering for the Council in the areas of property, planning, highways, regulatory, procurement, construction, partnership ventures, contract and commercial law.

You will be an integral member of the Legal Services Management Team and a driving force in our continued growth and development.

Prior experience of working in a local government environment and experience of advising in committees and of working with Elected Members will be an advantage.

There are so many reasons to practise with us. Beyond our multiple award wins (including recent success in the LLG Annual Awards) and the opportunity to help drive our future success, you’ll be able to thrive in a positive, supportive environment where we value our people, and their development genuinely comes first. People like to work for us, and we have a tradition of growing our own talent through our excellent training schemes. As part of the Management Team, you will be hands on in ensuring that we continue our delivery of excellent legal work, dedicated client service and innovation, whilst growing your own skills and potential in both leadership and your chosen area of specialism. And, as long as you can travel to Warwick weekly and as needed for meetings and committees, we are also open to part-time and flexible working.
