Job Overview:

An exciting opportunity to join Shirestone Academy in our early years setting.

Shirestone Academy is a successful one form entry school. We have a team of teaching assistants who work in a variety of ways supporting the teaching and learning of children.

We are seeking a highly skilled, enthusiastic, experienced, and well-motivated level 3 teaching assistant to join our friendly and hardworking team whose role calls for competence across a varied range of responsibilities.

Working under the supervision of a class teacher, you will be responsible for supporting children across the school, as well as delivering structured interventions and group work activities.

Our EYFS Setting at Shirestone Academy:

Our EYFS consists of one Nursery class and one Reception class. In our nursery setting we have children attending part-time and full-time. We encourage a rich and engaging coverage of the Early Years curriculum that develops children as a whole. We follow Development Matters and the EYs Framework to build our curriculum and use topics each half term to build on children’s knowledge and skills. We use an online learning journal to record observations of children as well as literacy and maths books to showcase work completed. To aid in developing children’s language and communication skills, we use the Wellcomm Language intervention, which a successful candidate would be trained in and expected to deliver to children.

The successful candidate will need:

• be emotionally intelligent with the ability to build strong working relationships with students, staff, parents, and carers

• the ability to work in a fast paced, challenging yet always rewarding role

A high level of literacy and numeracy skills – GCSE English and Maths

• relevant teaching assistant qualifications

• the ability to establish good working relationships with children, colleagues, and other professionals

• the ability to motivate children to achieve their best and establish good relationships with their peers

• the ability to be proactive and demonstrate good organisational skills

• the ability to demonstrate high levels of enthusiasm and use your own initiative to work independently

• a willingness to receive training / advice from other professionals

• first Aid qualification or willingness to be trained

• team Teach training or willingness to be trained in positive handling

• an understanding of effective practice in teaching all aspects of the Early Years

Duties and Responsibilities:

• to support individual children and groups, under the direction of the class teacher/EYFS leader introducing activities and using a range of strategies to support all children in their learning

• to help prepare and maintain an engaging, purposeful, orderly, and supportive environment for learning both inside and outside

• to help pupils to access the full EYFS curriculum, at the same time promoting independent learning both inside and outside

• to observe pupils' performance and engagement, using the systems in place in the class to provide the teacher with feedback on pupil progress and learning

• to help to maintain individual and group records (learning journals)

• to contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities for individuals and groups

• to organise and lead one-on-one and group speech and language interventions using the WellComm Toolkit (training will be provided)

• to share responsibility for supporting children and parents during the periods of settling in and transition
