Class Teacher Job Description

 

Knowledge and Understanding

 

  • Be familiar with, understand and promote all school policies relating to the Curriculum, Health and Safety and Safeguarding Maintain an up to date knowledge and understanding of the professional duties of teachers Have a secure knowledge of statutory and non-statutory curriculum frameworks and guidance

Planning, Teaching, Assessment and Class Management

 

  • Ensure consistently high standards of discipline and apply positive behaviour management strategies Promote an ethos which entitles pupils to equality of opportunity and achievement Provide an exciting and stimulating learning environment, which also makes use of the outdoor environment where appropriate Ensure all pupils make good progress in relation to their prior and expected attainment Set consistently high expectations for all learners Use ICT to enhance teaching and learning Plan, prepare and resource progressive programmes of work in the long, medium and short term for classes, groups and individuals Engage and enthuse children through a range of teaching and learning strategies Accurately assess children’s progress and set challenging targets Communicate effectively with parents and provide verbal and written reports to parents of children’s progress

Communicating and Working with Others

 

  • Lead and work in professional collaboration with other adults supporting teaching and learning Develop positive working relationships with parents, governors, the Church and the community in order to support the aims of the school and enhance the learning opportunities for the children

Other Professional Requirements

 

  • Act as a role model in line with the school’s Code of Conduct Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation and a positive response to challenge and high expectations

Professional Development

 

  • Participate in staff meetings Take responsibility for own professional development by recognising own learning needs Participate in the annual cycle of Performance Management Support colleagues in the development of their teaching
