The role of Cover Supervisor is an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified teacher yet to secure employment for September 2023.

The Cover Supervisor will supervise classes during the short-term absence of the class teacher, implement work programmes and manage pupil behaviours and assist pupils in relevant activities. The post holder will work under the guidance of teaching and senior staff to secure good outcomes for all students. The post would suit a graduate/someone looking to gain experience to pursue a teaching career or someone who is simply passionate about the future of our students.

This is an exciting time for Smith’s Wood Academy as we strive to secure the very best outcomes for our students. Over recent years the school has made many gains to secure improved life chances for our students. We are proud of the work that we have done to improve the quality of the curriculum and how it is delivered. This combined with high quality pastoral support means that our students are happy and enjoy coming to school.

Smith’s Wood is fortunate to have fabulous facilities for all our students and staff, including a gym and swimming pool.

The academy is conveniently located as it is close to large road networks; there is ample onsite parking.

We can also offer:

• PPA time in excess of the standard 10%

• opportunities for individualised professional learning and other training

• entry to the FMAT career progression pathway

• access to a growing range of staff perks via perkbox and salary sacrifice options

• a caring, committed, friendly and hard-working staff

Smith’s Wood became an academy in April 2017 when it joined Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust, a family of four secondary schools in Birmingham and Solihull. This partnership enables the academy to share and develop practice as part of a wider group of academies and partners. Each Academy is unique and we celebrate our individuality but we all work collaboratively towards common goals. Our collective vision statement is ‘Enriching Lives; Transforming Futures’.

Smith’s Wood is a rewarding place to learn and work. Students that choose to study with us and colleagues that choose to work with us tell us what an incredible school this is. At Smith’s Wood we are dedicated, ambitious people who strive for excellence in all that we do. We always work with integrity and are proud of our innovative approaches and values.

The Council is a fantastic place to work. You will find an organisation that is both challenging and supportive; with a leadership impatiently adventurous in its pursuit of excellence.

There is a clear vision which is ensuring that the Council is working for communities today and building for tomorrow, we focus our resources on five key priorities:

  • A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
  • An Inclusive Birmingham: through a focus on tackling poverty and inequality, empowering citizens, promoting diversity and civic pride, and supporting and enabling all children and young people to thrive.
  • A Safe Birmingham: through a focus on making the city safer, safeguarding vulnerable citizens, increasing affordable housing, and tackling homelessness.
  • A Healthy Birmingham: through a focus on tackling health inequalities, encouraging physical activity and healthy living, supporting mental health, and improving outcomes for adults with disabilities and older people.
  • A Green Birmingham: through a focus on street cleanliness, improving air quality, continuing the route to net zero, and becoming a city of nature.

We see the Council’s role as providing strategic leadership – that’s being able to visualise a new future for the city and equipping others to share our vision. We want to ensure the provision of services for all, so we can support those least able to support themselves by working with partners and putting citizens and neighbourhoods at the heart of our decision-making.

We are always looking for people who put the customer at the centre of their approach, with a commitment to excellence to help us achieve our vision.  We will support you to develop and thrive in your role, building a pathway for long-term success, with lots of development opportunities, such as apprenticeships.

In return, we offer you excellent terms and conditions, generous annual leave, a great pension scheme, well-being support, annual travel passes and discounts at a number of city centre establishments.
