Role: Pastoral Assistant
Reporting to: Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead
Summary role: To use specialist skills to provide pastoral support to students.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £20,000.00 per year (actual salary)
Hours: 30 hours per week
Impact Independent School is based in Cradley Heath with an additional site in Dudley. We are an Independent School working with disadvantaged young people between the ages of 11 and 16 with social, emotional, behaviour difficulties and children with Education Health Care Plans.
Key Tasks:
Working closely with the DSL and Pastoral Lead you will take a significant role in this team and with the administration (including Arbor, Cpoms /MIS) and support processes associated with child protection and safeguarding in the school. This includes keeping records, monitoring progress, and working with pastoral staff in school, families, and external agencies.
Provision of support
The appointed person will show initiative and purpose in helping to target those pupils and families needing particular intervention / support, working with them to improve their situation and their general well-being in school. These needs will be varied in both scope and in severity but will include the provision of:
Emotional support for those suffering with anxiety or low mood
Academic support in the form of organisation, monitoring and motivation
Specific support for those with diagnosed needs (such as ADHD, ASC)
Short term support for those dealing with upset, loss or difficulty
Help for those who are struggling to attend school
The teaching / coaching of emotional literacy
Additionally, more general support, including the provision of assistance to:
New pupils as they settle into school
Pupils with the inevitable friendship issues or day-to-day upsets
Pupils who need (or just appreciate) a quiet space to take a time out
The more vulnerable members of our school community
General responsibilities:
To ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety regulations and with due regard to Child Protection and Safeguarding in line with KCSIE. To undertake any training and development for the better fulfilment of the post To liase with outside agencies and local authorities To undertake any ad hoc duties or projects as requested.
Maintain accurate student files and update school MIS systems as necessary.
To assist with the general supervision of pupils including the management of behaviour and the enforcement of school rules
To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as determined by Line Manager or Head.
The candidate would have a good standard of education minimum of GCSE in English and Maths (A-C or 4-9), with further relevant qualifications to support the pastoral role.
