We have a great opportunity for a Bus Development Specialist to support and deliver Transport for West Midland’s ambitious Bus Service Improvement Plan.

You will assist the Bus Operations and Development Manager in working collaboratively across the Bus Delivery Team and other internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement specific operational requirements.

We have received a significant amount of funding to help shape transport in the West Midlands and you will play a key part in this journey.

What will you be doing?

  • Ensure that the West Midlands bus network is sustainable within available funding
  • Challenge bus operators and the Bus Services Team to deliver the agreed network as part of any network review, tender processes or other opportunity to implement positive change
  • Plan for the adoption of bus service registration powers from the Office of the Traffic Commissioner
  • Plan for the implementation and management of the wider roll out of demand responsive bus services in the region
  • Work closely with the Head of Transformation and the Head of Bus to identify and evaluate options for the provision of Ring & Ride services in the West Midlands
  • Represent the Bus Delivery Team in discussions with Local Authorities, developers, scheme promoters and their representatives
  • Establish a framework to enable the continual reporting of Bus Network Performance and Partnership requirements
  • Ensure that development activity including masterplan documents, planning of infrastructure projects, new housing and employment developments fully considers bus provision and supports the delivery of the Bus Service Improvement Plan objectives


About you

You must have experience of the operational planning and managing of transport operations.

You will have an eye for detail and be highly analytical with experience of implementing new systems/operating arrangements.

The ability to make decisions effectively is key to this role and you will be a confident individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
